Okay, I'm still sick but I figured I'd post this. (mumble) Feel sleepy too but my muses are being bitchy so I'm gonna have to do some more writing soon. Grr... need cocoa.

Title: Tribes of Blight

Author: Kitti-Chan

Pairing: Hee hee, wouldn’t you like to know? ~wink~

Spoilers: AU

Summary: A plague wipes out everyone over the age of 18, the Scooby’s endure.

A/N- Since everyone over 18 has died I decided not to kill the demons. Don’t ask me why it just doesn’t affect their physiology. Also Angel is still a vampire he just has no demon… I know it does not make much sense but I needed him around. I set it before their junior year because I did not want to deal with Aus and Hell and coming back and the mayor. Which brings me to him. He’s dead, he was basically human and over 18; hence death. Also Giles, sadly, died and not so sadly Ben died too; taking Glory with him. Dawn however will still appear because the monks (who have died) had to put the Key somewhere.
And yes I do love Hyena!Xander

Feedback: Would be much-ly appreciated

“So you’ve been tracking that Reth demon how far?” Buffy inquired as she and Willow led Riley and Graham through the compound. After their initial introductions they had gotten down to why the leader of Tribe Velocity and his second in command were in Alpha Tribe’s region. Turned out that a flame demon had attacked them and they had been following the Reth across half of California. Willow watched Buffy try to charm Riley and fought down a gag.

“This is our school wing.” She told Graham as she played tour guide and Buffy simpered. Neither Graham or Riley were too talkative, with Riley he didn’t honestly seem smart enough to string a set of words together but Graham seemed intelligent just quiet. And that was another thing that was bothering her, for the person in charge of a tribe as powerful as Velocity was whispered to be Riley honestly did not seem intelligent enough, more the type to take orders. Actually Riley was just bugging her, and he had gotten the weirdest look on his face when introduced to Angel. Almost everyone knew that Alpha Tribe hosted a souled and an un-souled vampire as personnel. Shaking off her thoughts Willow calmly kept up a running dialogue. Buffy had planned on giving Graham and Riley a tour of the high school and outside area but avoiding anything potentially endangering. Though they would be showing them the wall.

As they continued to walk Willow briefly pointed out the barracks and spotted Xander who was heading out with the three other workers to fix up the wall. “Who’s that?” Graham asked, and Willow wondered if she had been so open as to disclose her affection for Xander but glancing up into the man’s face she saw it was simple curiosity and yet… something else…

“That’s Xander.” Buffy said when she saw the direction of their gaze. “He’s our resident jack-of-all-trade’s. Child care, construction, fighting, scavenging, he’s also Angel’s second in command.” Angel and Buffy shared command of the tribe and while Buffy refused to take an assistant Angel had picked Xander in case there was something he could not take care of and Buffy was busy. Angel and Xander had made up soon after his return from the marauding magicians. With Angelus removed Angel did not chafe at Xander’s nerves so much and since Xander had disregarded his crush on Buffy after his road trip the two fighters had quickly become friends.

Neither Willow or Buffy caught the look that the two men traded and as the group passed within hearing distance of the oblivious young man Graham whispered “Hello Hotshot.” Before they passed out of sight.

Down the hallway the three builders watched as suddenly their crew leader paled and whipped his head around. None saw the brief flash of green but all wondered at his sudden stillness. “Guys, head out to the wall by yourselves. I’ll be there in a minute there’s something I have to check on.” Confused the Jamie, Peter and Lucas shrugged and continued on outside as their crew boss disappeared down the hallway.

Dawn looked up shocked and Xander slid into the infirmary, grasping the doorjamb for balance as he stopped. Wide haunted brown eyes stared at her from a pale face and it wasn’t long before the slight brunette was gathered up into a hug. “Dawnster, I’ve got a request okay. Stay here. Just stay here until Willow gets back no matter what. Please?” Dawn could only nod. Then Xander landed a quick kiss on her forehead before rushing out the door, once in the hallway though he stopped and turned poking his head back inside the room. “You do know I love you right?” Dawn again could only nod and her brother disappeared down the hallway as she wondered why that sounded so much like goodbye.

In a cot with privacy curtains drawn a wounded vampire sat with a worried expression on his face. What was going on that could send the whelp into such a tizzy about the waif? Not an attack, he was certain Xander would either have stayed to defend her or taken her with them and Xander would certainly remember Spike was there. The scent he had gotten from the handsome young man had been fear, anger, hatred, and remembered pain. The young man had been solely focused on making sure Dawn was safe, to the exclusion of any thing else. Eyes widening Spike’s mind raced, it had to do with how Xander and the waif had found each other. Had the people Buffy and Willow gone to meet been part of that forgotten portion of the younger man’s life? Sub-vocal growl starting to build Spike flashed into game face. He’d rip the spine out of anyone who tried to harm his adopted family.

Xander stood back and looked at the slowly building wall. Deciding to use bricks the construction crew of four had quickly set to work and now had a sturdy red and white barricade of about four feet. Turning around he headed into one of the shadowed parts of the wall. The building materials had fallen into the shade about half an hour ago as the sun crossed the sky. Bending over Xander didn’t notice the presence behind him until it was too late.

“Hello Xander.” A cool voice purred in his ear and the bag of cement mix Xander had picked up fell from suddenly unfeeling fingers. Bent over holding him down was a man who outweighed him by close to a hundred pounds, the illustrious Graham fucking Miller. He had seen Riley, Willow, and Buffy come out with Graham a few minutes ago and wondered how Graham had been able to slip his keepers.

“Miller.” Xander grunted from his bent position, itching to hit the other man but not wanting to draw the attention of the others. He’d have to explain his actions and that was not something to look forward to because it would lead to digging up a part of his past he wanted to keep six-feet under.

“Ah, Xan not on a first name basis anymore?” Pressure on the back of his neck pinching at him and stars begin to flash in front of Xander’s eyes. Pissing Graham off had always been a bad idea and led to painful lessons. His cock, the stupidest part of his body ever, is starting to take interest in the affairs. It had always liked being overpowered. Glancing to his right he can see Jamie, Lucas and Peter are working away on the wall. Up on the guard posts Willow and Andrew basically guard the generator and disguise this by talking as their eyes watch Riley and Buffy. Obviously they forgot about Graham, not their fault the boy can be damn close to invisible when he wants to be.
“I dunno Graham, you always preferred when I called you ‘Sir’.” Xander spits and debates shouting for help and saying Graham accosted him. As likely a story as any, but Velocity had power. Power to spread nasty rumors about Alpha Tribe, the power to cultivate hate if need be.

“What can I say Xan? Went to a military academy.” Graham laughs, a throaty chuckle that makes Xander’s cock twitch in remembrance. “Piss of Miller. I’m not into that anymore.” Graham laughed again but with a definitely sinister edge to it.

“C’mon Xander, we both know you can’t just get over it like that. I own you.” Xander snorts at that. No one owned him, not unless he wanted them too and he had revoked Graham lease on grounds of abuse.

“Miller if you’d owned me I wouldn’t be here right now would I? I’d never have been able to break away from you in the first place.” Suddenly Buffy’s voice cuts through the tension.

“Hey! Where’s Graham?” When they all turn Xander and Graham are merely standing side by side and if they appear a little sweaty, well it’s hot out and if Xander looks a little red in the face, it’s only because he’s been working on the wall for most of the day.

“Harris here was just showing me the wall. It’s too bad about the attacks.” Buffy nods at this and turns around, obviously expecting Xander to be able to handle the larger man. Willow however ditches Andrew’s post at the generator and heads straight over, making sure to keep Graham in her sights for however long she needs to.
