Title: Tribes of Blight
Author: Kitti-Chan
Pairing: Hee hee, wouldn’t you like to know? ~wink~
Spoilers: AU
Summary: A plague wipes out everyone over the age of 18, the Scooby’s endure.
A/N- Since everyone over 18 has died I decided not to kill the demons. Don’t ask me why it just doesn’t affect their physiology. Also Angel is still a vampire he just has no demon… I know it does not make much sense but I needed him around. I set it before their junior year because I did not want to deal with Aus and Hell and coming back and the mayor. Which brings me to him. He’s dead, he was basically human and over 18; hence death. Also Giles, sadly, died and not so sadly Ben died too; taking Glory with him. Dawn however will still appear because the monks (who have died) had to put the Key somewhere.
And yes I do love Hyena!Xander
Feedback: Would be much-ly appreciated

That night there was a fight. A fire demon had tried to raze down the high school and Angel, Oz, Faith, and Buffy had headed it off before it got halfway through burning down city hall. Apparently there was a reason Reth demons were not known for their intelligence. Spike was upset at missing the fight but he was laid up and plotting a way to get sex so he wasn’t too pissed. Watching Buffy and Oz come in with really bad burns he was actually kinda grateful. After all, vampire flammable. Faith came in with only a few first degree burns and while no one had burned off their nerve endings some of the ones the slayer and wolf had looked pretty bad.
As Willow bandaged them up she sent a silent thank you to the powers that be for accelerated healing. Smoothing some soothing, and magicked, ointment onto the burns she ignored both her patients winces and the glares they kept sending each other. Then Xander was through the door and she knew that even if the injured were acting pissy now they would be in a better mood in a minute.
Xander smiled at the dirty blonde and the male red head, which both just shot him dirty glares. “So I see the fight went well.” Another dual glare.
“Yeah, we killed the Reth demon but not until after wolfie there managed to jump in front of it!” Buffy shouted and winced. Oz glared at her and shrugged, which made him wince.
“Distraction.”
“You nearly got burned to a crisp!”
“You jumped in front of me. Would have made it out without getting hurt otherwise.” And wow is Xander glad he’s not on the business end of Buffy’s fixed stare. Deciding things could possibly lead to Buffy busting her vocal cords Xander steps in.
“So Oz jumped in front of the demon to distract it. Then when it turned towards him Buffy got worried and jumped in front of Oz, when she could have pushed him out of the way instead? And then instead of leaving Buffy to her fate Oz tried to drag her out of the blaze only to get burned himself.” Oz and Buffy are both looking at him now and unquestionably showing signs of embarrassment. “So basically you both got burned because you’re self sacrificing and care about each other.” Nods. “That settled?” More nods. “Good, cause I brought you two pressies!” Buffy squeals happily and out of the corner of his eye Xander can see the sardonic smile on Willow’s face. Pulling two things out of his pocket he casually handed them to the two wounded.
Buffy got a bottle of lotion, she had been complained about dry skin lately and a chafing slayer was a distracted slayer. Plus it was a lightly scented lilac lotion, and Xan had overheard Buffy and Angel talking about their favorite scents. Apparently Buffy’s was lilac.
Oz got a health bar that Xander had found a while ago and stored a couple of. It was a Luna bar, and Xander had just thought it was the perfect present in case Oz got sick or hurt or for his birthday. Plus they would probably be good for trade. The werewolf gave him a small smile, and then waited for Willow to finish her ministrations before heading back to his comfortable cot for a night of sleep.
Buffy stood up and gave him a peck on the cheek for her gift. “Thanks Xan! It’s really thoughtful.” Giving his favorite Slayer a one-armed hug he carefully avoids the bruises. Buffy smiles at him and then starts out the door before spinning around. “Oh! You’re supposed to fix the wall today!”
“I know, I was just about to get Jamie, Peter, and Lucas.” Giving him another bright smile Buffy leaves and Xander turns to face a grinning Willow. Both forgetting about the injured vampire they begin to put away the various ointments and bandages.
“I saw Harvey yesterday. He’s dealing better with his rage issues since you gave him that mantra.” Willow says and moves around the brunet to push a box back on the shelf. Xander reaches over the shorter person to push it back from the edge.
“I know, Linda talked to me about it. She seems a lot happier now that he isn’t always screaming. Apparently there’s a little one to think of now.” Bigger smile from Willow at this.
“She saw me the day of the wolf attack, won’t be long before a new face joins that crèche of yours. Have you heard what’s going on with the school house?” Xander nods and moves towards the door, his arm around Willow’s waist.
“Yeah, Urana has apparently been a hit. She’s teaching the youngsters while Larry takes care of the older kids. Who knew the big bully would be such a great teacher?” Willow shoots Xander a look that twinkles with mischievousness.
“Or gay?” Xander chokes and lets go of her waist as he trips out the doorway.
“Not fair! I have one talk with the guy and he decides to come out to the entire school!” Shaking his head Xander heads away to meet up with the two men and one woman who will be helping him rebuild the wall. “Bye Blondie!” He shouts back in before disappearing.
Spike jerks a little. So apparently the boy had not forgotten he was there. Did that mean he was comfortable enough to act like himself in front of Spike? And speak to Willow about tribe business in front of him? Willow’s eyes are twinkling with kindness now as they meet Spike and he realizes Willow did not forget he was there either. Did that mean he was family? Then the witches eyes catch on the old beer bottle and her eyes narrow briefly.
“Xander hu?” She asks and shakes her head before he can answer. “Thought he was gonna use it for barter. Congrats Spike, Xander apparently views you as pack.” And as the witch heads into her room for something Spike’s eyes widen even farther. Guess that answered his question.
Buffy took the pair of binoculars with a feeling of trepidation. Bringing them up to her eyes she watched as a pair of jeeps started to make their way over to the Alpha Tribe compound. Standing next to her Andrew began to natter on.
“I just can’t figure out how they got the gas for those monsters! I mean finding gas around here has been like looking for dilithium crystals on D-class planets! And those things are such gas guzzlers! We only use our trucks when we have market day, which reminds me it’s coming up and…” He stopped when he realized Buffy wasn’t listening. Sulking Andrew then continued to watch the dust clouds in the distance.
“Well they’re definitely heading our way and they look human at least.” Buffy said giving him back the binoculars. To her right Cordelia snorts, since the beginning of Alpha Tribe she had been in charge of regulating food and clothes, bartering for those, and scheduling meetings with other tribes.
“I know we didn’t have anyone planning on meeting us today. But if they stop by it would be a shame if we missed them. After all, maybe they’d be willing to trade gas for something?” She had also calmed down, losing the Queen C attitude that had made her such a bitch. Mellowing out and letting others take control. There was a rumor circling the compound about Cordelia and a young man named Gage. Gage was in charge of water regulation, and waste disposal. He was also a top notch swimmer and fisher.
“True, it’s Sunny so I can’t bring Angel outside, but he’ll still want to meet them. Oz was on watch last night, so was Faith.” Buffy mused as she tried to figure out who she would bring to show the other visitors around if it came to that. “Xander’s fixing the wall…”
“I’m still working out the kinks in the generator.” Andrew said popping his head out of the rusted hunk of junk that he had buried himself in as soon as Buffy had begun speaking to Cordelia. As the dark blonde turned to look at the brunette the other woman shook her head and held up her hands in a warding gesture.
“Nuh-uh! I’m on little kid duty today, and we still need to get the latest scavenged clothes sorted and handed out. Plus lunch is coming up and I’m kitchen supervisor.” Cordelia might not be able to cook worth a damn but she kept their meals edible. Buffy sighed.
“Fine, I’ll just have to drag Willow away from her sickbay.”
Willow looked up as Buffy walked in and taking in the blondes determined stance and set face she immediately shook her head. “No! Dawn’s sleeping and I can’t just leave it unwatched!” Buffy just stared at her and Willow sighed. “Fine. What’s the sitch?”
“Unexpected visitors, hopefully the good kind.” Buffy totally ignored the blonde vampire who was watching them with fascination.
“Well then, guess we had better go great our uninvited guests.” Willow brushed her hair out of her face and put on a resolve face as she headed out the door. “But I’m waking Dawn up.”
Buffy smiled at the big brunet and his friend. They were buff and all-American looking home-town boys. In the shadowed foyer she stood with Willow on one side and Angel behind her shaded from the sun. As the two young men were escorted inside by some of Alpha Tribe’s guard detail they took the time to study the people they were meeting. Appearing unimpressed they offered their hands to the slight blonde. “Hello Ma’am, I’m Riley Finn and this is Graham Miller. We’re members of Tribe Velocity."
