I prolly wouldn't have heard about this if not for Sab. And I gotta say...
WTH were you THINKING Patricia Wrede?
It's not the say that a lot of SF/F books aren't primarily White-centric (and oooh, how I hate identifying as 'white' some days. Have you ever noticed how instead of 'Caucasian' a LOT of those ticky boxes now say 'WHITE'? I generally tick 'DUN WANNA TALK ABOUT IT' when they do) and often there is minimization of other cultures (race is a sociological term with biological undertones that I PREFER NOT TO USE.) other than Western cultures.
But. Srsly. Don't... don't WIPE OUT a VARIETY of cultures/civilizations (not just one, not just two, HOW MANY seperate peoples were there living in the US?! Just because they collectively become 'Native Americans' or 'First Peoples' doesn't mean that they weren't a complete cultural construct on their OWN) just because you don't feel comfortable with it!!! Don't set it in FAKE AMERICA then. Set it in ANOTHER WORLD where you're having the exploration and colonization of another land. LOOSELY base it on the American 'dream'.

That said, and now ignored b/c I'm NOT purchasing this book and I don't particularly wish to deal with the fact that 'no publicity is bad publicity'...
There's something missing from my blueberry muffins. They're very light, fluffy, and muffiny. (Not, cakey/crumbly like some store bought muffins.) I added a little vanilla, but I think I should have gone with my first instinct and added lemon juice instead, to bring out the flavor. Or maybe my typical dash of cinnamon, nutmeg, and cloves. I wanted to try the original recipe first though (even if I thought it'd be bland) b/c you should never make alterations without trying the original.
The band ate half of my original batch, I'm tempted to go make another. (I'd only be up another hour.)
