Title: Bombs and Baseball and Mummies, oh my!
Author: K8
Rating: At the moment... PG-13.
Pairing: IDK. Nothing at the moment. Pretty goddamn gen. Tsuna/Gokudera mebbe
Summary: Based on The Mummy Returns. Tsuna is an archeologist, Gokudera is an archeologist, they dig up dangerous objects that kind of obviously should have been left alone. Gokudera just can't leave them alone.
Tsuna shook his head. "No, Gokudera, no." Gokudera was leaning on the bookshelf, the clothes he had tossed on when he had come home hanging half off of his body. Tsuna wasn't sure how Gokudera always seemed to show an optimal amount of skin, even when he wasn't trying, but Gokudera always managed. It was distracting, especially when Gokudera was asking for such things as an expedition to Cairo, or digging up ancient Greek ruins, or that Tsuna come with him to investigate European mummies in China. "We're not going to go find… wherever it was!"
Did Gokudera forget that they almost died on their last excavation when Gokudera had opened up a box and the Nile had come rushing in? Did Gokudera forget that it was that same box that was supposed to lead them to Ahm Shere, or whatever it was.
"But tenth!" Gokudera clutched the ancient volume to his chest. "Tenth, it's the trip of a lifetime! Of a century! Of a millennium!"
Tsuna backed away from his overenthusiastic research partner. "Stop calling me that! I told you, no matter what the tattoo means I'm not the Tenth of the Vongola!" Get tattooed with a 'dying will flame' by your dad when you were, like, five and all the sudden everyone seems to believe you were their foretold leader. "And we're not going. Why would it be the trip of a millennium, Gokudera?"
Gokudera looked faintly worried now, and he adjusted his glasses. "Well, the last time someone reached Amn Shere was… Ramses the fourth." Gokudera looked a little sheepish as he took his glasses off and slipped them into his pocket." Gokudera's expression turned enthusiastic, as he always gt when talking about history. "He sent over a thousand men!"
"And they were never heard of again." Tsuna sighed.
"Gokudera blinked, "How did you know?"
Tsuna frowned at Gokudera, like Gokudera thought he would be an idiot, well, okay Tsuna was an idiot. "It's how the stories always go, Gokudera."
Gokudera pouted, which was almost as distracting as Gokudera's half dressed state. They heard a crash from the first level of the library, Gokudera leaned over the railing to glare down at Lambo. "IDIOT COW."
Tsuna took a peek, worried that Lambo had broken something. Lambo was on his knees, several expensive, ancient, delicate books surrounding him, the box containing the bracelet of Anubus balanced precariously on the edge of the table by Lambo's right hand. "Lambo, watch out for that chest!"
"Ah!" Lambo caught the heavy chest before it fell and pushed it back onto the table. "To…ler…ate…" Lambo leaned over the chest and smiled up at Tuna and Gokudera. "See! It's all safe! Though it ways a fucking ton." That last sentence was muttered under his breath.
Muttering Gokudera ran a hand through his hair. "Stupid cow. Watch your mouth! And don't open that chest you hear? Don't even BREATHE on it wrong!" Gokudera turned away from the railing and moved back to the bookcase, shelving the volume on the Scorpion King.
Tsuna glanced at Lambo, was looking sulky and rebellious, before turning to eye Gokudera. Now that Gokudera was pissed maybe he'd forget about going to…
"So, I can charter us a flight to Egypt right?"
"Gokudera…" Tsuna was about to say something when Gokudera's eyes caught on something just beyond Tsuna. "What is it?" Tsuna turned, blinked questioningly at the pair of trousers. "…those aren't my pants." They weren't Gokudera's either.
"…that baseball idiot." Gokudera snarled and turned before stalking off. "I'll be right back tenth!"
Tsuna shook his head. No doubt Yamamoto had invited a few baseball players over while he was watching the house. No harm done. "Lambo, want to see something interesting?" Tsuna picked up the book that Gokudera had been looking through before heading for the stairs down. It would be a while before Gokudera came back; Tsuna might as well educate Lambo about the things he wasn't supposed to be touching.
--
Gokudera shoved open another door. So far he'd checked the billiards room, the kitchen, the dining room, and had just entered Yamamoto's usual guest room, and still no Yamamoto. The billiards room and guest room had both been trashed. Now Gokudera was just about to storm out of Yamamoto's room when he heard a noise in the study attached. "…" Moving quietly through the attached bathroom, filled to the brim with water and bubbles, Gokudera pressed his ear to the closed door.
"Ha ha ha… I'm not really sure what you're talking about."
"Gokudera Hayato." Gokudera startled, but the voice was still behind the door, "We know you took the chest containing the bracelet of Anubis from the temple." The voice sounded stuck up, faintly bookish, the type of person who would irritate the hell out of Gokudera. Gokudera gritted his teeth, some asshole had invaded his home, and while Gokudera might not care about what they did to Yamamoto, Gokudera did care about what they wanted with the bracelet of Anubis. With the bracelet of Anubis you could raise the scorpion king and control the army of Anubis.
"You know... I tried to tell you before, ha ha, but… I'm not Gokudera. What do you want with him anyway?"
There was noise, and Gokudera really couldn't handle it anymore. Shoving a cigarette into his mouth Gokudera lit it with a snap of his lighter. He had a few mini-bombs slipped into his pocket, and he palmed those before he grabbed the handle of the door and slammed it open, unsurprised when he was confronted by several burly men with glares and guns. Yamamoto was seated in one of Gokudera's favorite arm chairs dressed in a tuxedo, his black bow tie hanging undone around his neck and several buttons of his shirt undone. The obvious owner of the bookish voice was the redhead with wavy hair and plastic rimmed glasses.
"He's not Gokudera Hayato, I am." Gokudera held the handful of bombs to his cigarette when he stormed into the room and grabbed Yamamoto. Seconds later the shooting started, Gokudera tossed the bombs at the buff idiots and the redhead and tossed himself through the door to the bathroom. Yamamoto, being not entirely an idiot, shut the door quickly after them as the bombs went off.
"What did you do this time, you idiot?" Gokudera snarled as he dragged Yamamoto through the halls. "And where is your sword?"
"Ah ha ha." Yamamoto laughed as he followed dutifully behind. "It's in my room of course. Gokudera, shouldn't we make sure they're dead?"
Gokudera dropped Yamamoto's arm now that he was sure the other man wasn't drunk and wouldn't stumble over his own feet. "If there's bastards invading the house and looking for the Bracelet of Anubis they're probably going to go after the Tenth too! He's in the library with that stupid cow!"
--
Tsuna closed the book up and set it on top of the stone chest. "So that's why you must not touch the bracelet." Tsuna smiled at Lambo, ignoring the nervous way Lambo was tugging his sleeve down. Lambo had the strangest twitches sometimes. He almost always had one eye closed, and he would collect candy and coins and keep them in his pockets, though when he was younger he used to keep them in his impressive hair. Tsuna supposed it was because Lambo was an abandoned child, so he was allowed to have some quirks. Still, in ten years you think he would grow out of some of them, but he just seemed to develop new ones.
"O-oh." Lambo twitched, looked nervously around, and then froze. "REBORN!"
Tsuna whirled around. "Reborn!" Leaning against the staircase railing, his black fedora casually tipped forward, was Tsuna's old tutor. The man who had first discovered the dying will tattoo, and who had introduced Tsuna to Gokudera, and everyone else, and who had trained Tsuna in how to be an archeologist.
"Ciao-ossu." Reborn nodded his head in greeting, and pushed off the banister. "Tsuna, you're about to have trouble."
"Wha-" Tsuna's eyes widened, and he grabbed Lambo and pulled him to the floor, rolling him under the heavy wooden table as machine gun fire stuttered around them. "Stay down!" Tsuna ordered, not doubting that Lambo could protect himself, but not wanting to have to worry about Lambo just in case.
"Sawada Tsunayoshi, we know you have the bracelet!" Came a shout from the balcony, where the machinegun fire had originated. No doubt these people were working for the same people that the people who had surprised Lambo back at the temple had been working for. That was a lot of unnamed people. "Hand over the bracelet or you and the kid die!"
"Sawada…" Lambo whispered. "I can-"
"Brave words, for men with big guns." Silence in the library, broken by the safety of Reborn's gun when he clicked it off. "I assume you've heard of me."
"No one said that-" Gun shots, one after the other, three in total as Reborn took out the attackers.
"Impressive skills…" Another voice, from the other end of the library. Tsuna rolled out from under the table and crouched so he could see over the edge. "For an arcoboleno."
"Oh ho." Tsuna glanced back and forth, girly faced kid, Reborn, girly faced kid, Reborn. There was no doubt in Tsuna's mind which one was more dangerous, Reborn, but there was still a sense of danger, and power, emanating from the young looking brat. "You look familiar… Gingerbread isn't it?"
"So you've heard of me!" Gingerbread hadn't moved, and neither had Reborn, to take one step would be to escalate the battle from words into actions. Tsuna's hands curled on top of the wooden table, but he did not stand, and his attention was so focused on Gingerbread and Reborn that he didn't notice the man slipping up behind him or the heavy tome smacking into the back of his head.
--
"Tenth!" Gokudera slammed into the library, gasping a little for breath. He took in the broken wooden table, with Lambo standing to one side with a bruise on his cheek, torn pages and broken books lying haphazardly around the library floor, the shattered glass window and the screech of tires as several cars peeled away. "Tenth!" Gokudera would have leaped straight from the staircase out the windows if he hadn't caught sight of Reborn then. "Reborn!"
"Still shouting, I see." Reborn lazily holstered his gun, his eyes taking in Gokudera and Yamamoto's appearance. "And too late. Tsuna was kidnapped."
"You're here." Gokudera gripped the banister when Yamamoto passed him with an airy laugh. Yamamoto walked down the staircase and cupped Lambo's cheek, looking him over. "You're here, the Tenth is kidnapped, the bad guys are here…"
"You're right, it's mummies again." Reborn gave a lazy shrug. "However, they didn't get what they wanted."
"They got the Tenth." Gokudera's nails bit into the polished mahogany wood. "What else did they want!"
"…mmm…" Yamamoto held Lambo's arm up, rolled his sleeve up even when Lambo tried to push him off. "Say, is this the Bracelet of Anubis those guys were talking about?"
Gokudera's incoherent, pissed off shout was loud enough that one or two of the 'bad guys' driving glanced over their shoulder.
